Organon presents an interesting idea: Geometry Wars in 3D space. It sounds wrong - a square peg in a round hole - but it works. That's about all it does. Organon is caught somewhere between concept and execution. Surprisingly solid controls and bright visuals can't make up for a lack of content.

You begin the game in a large cube, adding that extra dimension to Geometry Wars' four walls. A bright star in the center acts as a reference point, and a radar provides spacial awareness in a first-person view. The goal is to take out several red cubes scattered throughout the arena. Other cubes act as obstacles and grow in numbers as you progress.

What really makes Organon worth more than a passing glance are the simple controls. Three-dimensional flight can be extremely complex - even the most basic flight sims can be unwieldy at first - but Organon is actually about as simple and intuitive as its 2D cousin Geometry Wars.


Smooth arcade-style flying and neon graphics make a good first impression, but dodging and shooting in a sea of cubes isn't enough. Organon is a working prototype for a full-fledged game, not quite worth the price of admission.
